Epidotul se formează în roci metamorfice și în cavități hidrotermale, ca rezultat al transformării lente a mineralelor primare sub presiunea Pământului. Cristalele sale prismatice, lucioase, pot varia de la verde măsliniu la verde intens sau chiar brun-verzui, în funcție de conținutul de fier.
Numele său provine din grecescul epidosis, care înseamnă „supliment” sau „creștere”, aluzie la forma alungită a cristalelor sale. Și într-adevăr, epidotul ne învață despre creștere – despre acea transformare lentă și blândă care ne ajută să depășim limitele vechi și să îmbrățișăm o perspectivă nouă asupra vieții.
