Sodalite was first discovered in Greenland in 1806 by the Danish-Norwegian mineralogist Lass Hans Oersted. He named the mineral after its soda (sodium) content.

Sodalite is associated with the throat chakra (fifth chakra). This crystal is often used to stimulate this chakra and help with communication and expression. It is also believed that sodalite can also activate the forehead chakra, helping with mental clarity and improved intuition.
