Yooperlite is one of the most spectacular recent mineral discoveries. In normal light, it appears as a simple, discreet gray rock. However, under ultraviolet (UV) light, it glows in an intense orange, almost molten lavadue to its fluorescent sodalite content.
📍 Where does it come from?
Yooperlite was discovered in 2017 on the shores of Lake Superiorin the state of Michigan, USA.
The name comes from the nickname of the inhabitants of Michigan's Upper Peninsula – "Yoopers." The commercial name "Yooperlite" was popularized by Erik Rintamaki, who identified the special fluorescence of these rocks.
Geologically speaking, yooperlite is a sodalite-rich syenite rock – and it is precisely the sodalite that reacts to UV and produces that spectacular effect.
The yooperlite sphere is associated with emotional clarity and the expression of inner truth, being known for its connection to awareness and the discovery of hidden things.
