Hyalite opal, known internationally as Hyalite Opal or Water Opal, is a transparent to translucent variety of opal, with a glassy appearance and usually colorless or very faintly colored. It is a hydrated form of silica and is formed by the deposition of silica from water-rich solutions, often in cavities, cracks or on the surface of volcanic rocks. Some specimens of hyalite show a intense green fluorescence under ultraviolet light, phenomenon associated especially with uranium present in very low concentrations. Among the known mineralogical occurrences are those from Mexico, USA, Hungary and Germany.
In contemporary crystal therapy, hyalite opal is associated with clarity, intuition, inspiration, spiritual openness and amplifying intentions. Its transparent appearance has led to its symbolic association with clarity of perception and awareness, being particularly linked to the crown chakra.
