The Yooperlite, known internationally as Yooperlite®, is a natural rock that became known for its spectacular orange or yellow-orange fluorescence under ultraviolet (UV) light. In normal light, the specimens usually have a gray, brown, or ashy appearance, similar to ordinary rocks. Fluorescence is produced by fluorescent sodalite present in the rock, which becomes visible under UV light. Yooperlite became famous through specimens found on shores Lake Superior, in Michigan, USA, where rocks were transported and redistributed by glacial processes.
In contemporary crystal therapy, yooperlite is associated with self-expression, clarity, confidence, creativity and discovering inner potential. The contrast between the understated appearance in natural light and the intense fluorescence under UV symbolically contributed to its association with revealing hidden qualities and authentic expression.
