Orthoceras is a kind of Ammonit who lived during the Ordovician period, now about 485-443 million years ago. This kind of ammonite is known for its elongated and thin shell, which has often been used in the stratigraphic and chronological interpretation of the rocks of that period.
Ammonites, including orthoceras, were marine molluscs with spiral and segmented outer shells, which were often found as fossils in the rock layers. These fossils are important for understanding the evolution of marine life and geological history of the Earth.
