Blue kyanite is a mineral valued for its elongated, lamellar, and strongly striated crystalswhich can develop individually or clustered in natural groups. The shades range from light blue and bluish-gray to intense blue, sometimes with whitish or translucent areas.
From a mineralogical point of view, kyanite is an aluminum silicate (Al₂SiO₅)mainly formed in metamorphic rocks under high-pressure conditions. One of its particularities is different hardness depending on the crystal direction, determined by its strongly anisotropic structure.
In raw form, kyanite retains very well its natural crystallization structure, with overlapping lamellae, longitudinal striations, irregular terminations, and areas where crystals intersect or separate.
