Description - Amethyst point from Madagascar

Dimensions ranging between 3.5 and 4.5 cm

Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz and one of the best-known minerals in the silicate family. It is valued for its wide range of shades, from lilac and delicate violet to intense violet, with purple or slightly reddish tones..

From a mineralogical point of view, amethyst consists of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) and crystallizes in the trigonal system. Its characteristic violet color is linked to traces of iron present in the crystal structure and natural irradiation processes that occur in the geological environment in which the crystal forms.

Amethyst can form in cavities of volcanic rockswhere silicon-rich solutions allow the development of crystals on the inner walls. Over time, these can create spectacular amethyst geodes and druses., composed of numerous crystals oriented towards the interior of the cavity. The mineral can also appear in hydrothermal veins and in other geological contexts favorable to the formation of quartz.

Well-developed crystals usually exhibit prismatic shapes with natural terminations, a vitreous luster, and various degrees of transparency. A frequent feature is color zoning: the purple may be unevenly distributed in the crystal, with lighter and more intense regions, sometimes concentrated towards the crystal terminations.

Inside, one can observe veils, mineral inclusions, healed fractures, and various growth patterns. These elements formed along with the mineral and represent a part of its geological history.

Mineral: Amethyst
Variety: Quartz
Composition: SiO₂ – silicon dioxide
Crystal system: Trigonal
Hardness: 7 on the Mohs scale
Luster: Vitreous
Transparency: Transparent to translucent
Color: Lilac, violet, violet-purple to deep purple

The color, transparency, zoning, inclusions, and shape of the crystals naturally differ from one specimen to another. In the case of geodes and druzes, the shape of the cavity and the distribution of the crystals are also unique.

Each amethyst specimen is a unique mineral formation, with its own particularities of color, structure, and crystallization.

The product comes with a certificate of authenticity..

Maintenance and care

To preserve the beauty and energy of authentic crystals, clean them periodically with a soft cloth and warm water, avoiding chemical detergents or mechanical shocks.

For semi-precious stones used for energy purposes, it is recommended to purify them by rinsing them under cold water, by exposure to moonlight or with the help of palo santo or salviei.

Find them a place where they can be protected from direct sunlight, to keep the natural minerals in pristine condition and keep them shining.
