Bismuth (Bi) is a native element rarely found in nature, with a silvery-white metallic appearance and slight pinkish hues. Crystallize in trigonal system, has a hardness of approx 2–2.5 on the Mohs scale and a high density of approx 9.8 g/cm³.
Bismuth crystals with stepped geometric shapes, known as straight hopper crystals, are usually obtained by controlled cooling of molten bismuth. The iridescent colors – blue, purple, gold, pink or green – appear through surface metal oxidation and light interference, does not represent the natural color of bismuth.
