Iolite, also known as "water sapphire" or "cordierit," is an alumo-silky mineral of magnesium and iron, with a variety of unique and interesting properties. Its color ranges from purple blue to pale blue, sometimes with shades of gray or green. It is transparent to translucent and has an attractive vitreous gloss. On the Mohs scale, Iolite has a hardness of 7-7.5, being quite resistant to scratches.

One of the most remarkable features of Ielite is its pronounced pleochrocyism, which means it changes its color when it is viewed from different angles. From an angle, it can look blue-violet, from another yellow-gray angle, and almost colorless from a third angle. 

Iolite is considered a stone of inner vision and introspection, helping to develop mental clarity and intuition.
