Striped agate is a variety of chalcedony recognized for its natural bands and layers that form distinct patterns within the stone. The shades can vary from white, cream, and gray to brown, reddish, or almost black, depending on the mineral composition.
From a mineralogical point of view, agate is predominantly composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) and has a microcrystalline structure. The characteristic bands are formed by the successive deposition of chalcedony layers in rock cavities, with color variations influenced by impurities and minerals present during formation.
Polishing it into a palmstone emphasizes the natural pattern of the bands and gives the stone a smooth, rounded surface that is pleasant to touch.
