Pink chalcedony is a delicate variety of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of quartz, composed of extremely fine silica crystals. It is notable for its pastel shades, ranging from pale pink and dusty pink to pink-lilac tones, sometimes unevenly distributed throughout the mineral.
From a mineralogical point of view, chalcedony belongs to the quartz family and has a hardness of approximately 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Unlike macrocrystalline quartz, where individual crystals can be easily observed, the structure of chalcedony is made up of aggregates of microscopic crystals. This gives it a compact appearance, a smooth surface and a waxy to vitreous luster .
The pink color can be associated with inclusions and very small amounts of different elements or minerals present in the structure of the material. Natural specimens may show color variations, translucent areas, small inclusions, or differences in texture, natural peculiarities of the mineral formation.
