Ruby in fuchsite is a spectacular natural combination between ruby, the red variety of corundum, and fuchsite, a chromium-rich variety of mica. The contrast between the red-pink ruby crystals and the green matrix of the fuchsite gives each specimen a unique appearance.
Ruby is composed of aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃), and its red color is mainly determined by the presence of chromium. Fuchsite is a green variety of muscovite, its color also being associated with the presence of chromium in the mineral's structure.
Cut in the form of a sphere highlights the natural distribution of ruby in the matrix, as well as the variations of green, white, pink, and red present in the stone.
